Mixing and equalization basins

These basins are generally used to equalize waste water peaks, BOD5 or COD concentrations and pH values. The CO load is ≥ 1 kg BOD5 per m3 x d.
Aeration of the basins prevents fouling of the waste water, unpleasant smells and avoids sludge sedimentation at the bottom of the tank. Additionally, aeration reduces the waste water pollution load. The decomposition rate is up to 40 %, and secondary treatment by the municipal waste water treatment plant is lowered and the pollution fee bill reduced.
During the plant operation an oxygen content of 0.5 mg/L is sufficient. A special bacteria form develops which converts a major part of organic substances into cell substance. This impedes the settling of activated sludge flakes, and no excess sludge is produced.
Mixing and equalization basins equipped with FRINGS immersible aerators are frequently used in breweries, in the beverage industry and in dairies.
