Single-basin plants (simple sequencing-batch reactor / SBR plants)
|
| |
Single-basin plants, which are simple sequencing-batch reactor (SBR) plants, are used for a further, partial biological waste water treatment, e.g. if the municipal waste water treatment plant is overloaded, or to reduce the pollution fee bill.
In a single-basin plant, both functions of a biological waste water treatment plant, i.e. aeration and secondary clarification, take place in one basin. Two thirds of the basin volume is used as a waste water collection space, and one third is used as a sludge collection space. The CO load is ≥ 1 kg BOD5 per m3 x d.
During plant operation, an oxygen content of 0.5 mg/L is sufficient to allow a full bio-matter with activated sludge flakes to develop. The decomposition rate is 80 % and more. Excess sludge must be removed from time to time. This sludge is stabilized and is frequently used in agriculture, but also in slurry treatment plants for the production of biogas.
Single-basin SBR plants are used in nearly all sectors of industry. In Germany, SBR plants are sized according to the guideline ATV M210. This enables SBR plants to achieve the same decomposition rates as activated sludge plants; i.e. SBR plants can be used for fully biological waste water cleaning.
For further details regarding the sizing of mixing and equalization basins and single-basin SBR plants, including a number of sizing models, please read the FRINGS information bulletin no. 403 and the brochures that you can download on this page (above right) or in the Download area.
