Mini defoamer

Foam is produced when gas is released by a chemical reaction, through continuous aeration, or in transport processes.

The use of chemical anti-foam agents in biotechnology is often not desirable, as these substances remain in the product.

Foamex P provides for foam-free exhaust air, even in fermentations with strong foam formation.

The foam liquid obtained can be diverted or returned to the process, according to the particular process requirements.

Applications

  • Food technology
  • Biotechnology
  • Pharmacy
  • On-site foam analyses (field unit)
  • Scale-up tests

Benefits

  • Continuous aeration and optimum volume utilization
  • Stabilization of the course of reaction
  • Reduction or minimization of use of chemical anti-foam agents
  • Media are not “drained away“ with the foam
  • Reduced retention time of biocatalysts and/or biomass in the foam

Equipment features

  • Disassembly without tools for easy cleaning
  • Sterilizeable (SIP)
  • Suitable for reactors with a total volume of up to 22 L
  • Universal interface with pilot reactors
  • Driven by magnetic drive
  • Speed control and DC motor
  • Foam flow rate up to 15 L/min
  • Foam humidity up to 25 %

Working principle

Foamex P uses centrifugal forces to split the rising foam into a liquid-free gas flow and a liquid flow with clearly reduced gas content.

The latter can be returned to the fermenter or reactor.
