Competence and application development for gas-liquid reactions:
FRINGS pilot reactor 20 L - 200 L

 
Pilot reactors are scale-up tools for application development, allowing for feasibility studies of laboratory and pilot plant scale.

The reactors and devices have to be designed for special parameters, such as high pressures and temperatures, as well as aggressive and corrosive media. Furthermore, the reactors have to provide for extremely high aeration rates, homogeneous distribution of reactants and high efficiencies.

Frings pilot reactors are modularly designed and can be customized according to your specific requirements. They are based on the rotor-stator turbine aerator FRIBORATOR, which is the core component that provides high performance oxygen transfer:
  • The dynamic aerator performs two functions: fine-bubble aeration (gas-liquid interphase boundaries) and mixing with free jets;
  • The scale-up of the aerator to the production scale is based on Frings mathematical models.

Specification and selection of a pilot reactor

The customer provides a specification, including material requirements for the tank, for moving parts and seals, which is then converted by the FRINGS engineers into a detailed pilot reactor concept.

Preliminary tests with hydraulic and kinetic test systems can be conducted in our pilot plant reactors.

Also, a practicability check can be performed at the customer’s facilities by using FRINGS rental pilot reactors to adapt the plant concept accordingly.


Standard features of a pilot reactor

FRINGS pilot reactors are equipped with:

  • Aerator FRIBORATOR: a frequency converter installed directly at the motor provides for speed control;

  • Gas aspiration pipe, with shut-off component and flow meter

  • Tank made of Duran glass, stainless steel or PVC, sized from 20 to 200 L total volume

  • Double mechanical seal with barrier fluid, back-to-back array, sealed towards the atmosphere

  • Cap with (2) DN25 ports, (3) 1/2” pipe connections, (2) 1/2” cooling coil water inlet

  • Exhaust gas pipe with manometer and shut-off valve, pressure relief (option)

  • Use of probes and components for pH measurement, pO2 measurement, and mechanical defoamer option.
