In MIXING AND EQUALIZATION BASINS, the wastewater peaks, contamination levels and pH value are standardised. The aeration prevents the sewage from going bad and unpleasant odours from developing. At the same time, deposits in the reservoirs are prevented. As a side effect, the aeration can produce a partial biological decomposition of wastewater contamination. The decomposition rate can be up to 40%. This relieves the downstream communal treatment plant and tends to lead to the discontinuation of the heavy pollution charge during wastewater discharge. These systems are used with particular frequency in breweries, malt houses, the beverage industry and dairies.
